Talking Heads: Call for Entry

We have sorted out all the details of the upcoming exhibition with Cityscape Gallery. The gallery will be handling all the submissions and will do the jurying as well. They will also cover associated expenses - promotion, reception, etc.

 Talking Heads, a Contemporary Take on Headdresses: Call for Entry:

    The North Van Community Arts Council, in partnership with The Surface Design Association, BC, will present Talking Heads, a Contemporary Take on Headdresses, at the Cityscape Community Art Gallery, North Vancouver, from July 26 to Sept 7, 2013. The exhibition opening will be July 25th from 7-9pm.

    This juried exhibition will showcase works inspired by historical and/or cultural headdresses. Headresses, whether practical or ceremonial, have traditionally made a statement about the wearer and their cultural community. Our contemporary take on these historical artifacts will similarly make a statement about ourselves and our own cultural environments, while exploring an exciting diversity of techniques and media, as well as innovative approaches to the theme.

    The exhibition is open to fibre artists who are members of the Surface Design Association. Membership information can be found on the SDA website.

You will notice too, that this show is now only open to members of SDA - this was a requirement of the directors of Cityscape Gallery. For most of you this will not be an issue - for the rest, I feel certain you know that this is an organization well worth supporting, even if you join only for one year.

I have attached a couple of images again to inspire you. Remember, we are interested in your contemporary headdress which uses a cultural artifact as inspiration - it doesn't have to be wearable, and it can be a two-dimensional interpretation. So the field is pretty wide open.

Lastly, I will attach an image of some of Nick Cave's work - this, after all, was the original prompt for this show.
