FOR SALE:

I am interested in selling to  an artist (surface designer, yardage silk-screener, quilter, sewer?).  The table has a sturdy 4 x 8 foot plywood top which is padded with cotton quilt batting and then covered with a heavy cotton twill/satin surface cloth.  The table is bolted together and is easily disassembled and moved. The shelves underneath the top are removable. The table was designed for fabric silk screening and fabric painting.   The table is screwed together so it can be taken apart and moved.  There are 4 shelves under the table surface which can be removed.

The dimensions are 37” high by 4 x 8 feet.  There are wheels on the table legs which could be cut to make the table shorter if someone needed/wanted a shorter table.  I would like to get $300 for the table or will sell for the best offer.

   

    It is located in Coach Hill on the west side of Calgary.

What's on the Surface (second posting)

The set up went very well.  I recommend this as a job if you are looking to volunteer some time next time we do a show.  Very rewarding and learn from the experts!

Only when everyone else's work was up and deemed successfully hung, did our lead curator give her own work some time and consideration.

 Great shot of Wendy with her art work.... and a Noo Noo... sorry for those of you who don't know the children's show Teletubbies.  Not one of my favourites, but a part of British culture none the less.

Thanks A. for all  the help you gave us getting the room ready for the show and setting up and washing up wine glasses. You are a great kid.

And now that we have seen these GF gems,  by Twisted Tortes you WILL have your reward.

The evening was deemed a success this is part of the the room at its quietest! The gallery is to the right in this shot.  We had at least 120 folks talking art and socializing thanks everyone for making it a great evening.

I apologize if your name is not on your work, in my haste to get close ups, i neglected to catch names. PLEASE let me know. I also have other photos to post here but am not sure who's work was whose :) It would be a great help, if you let me know what work was yours in the show, and i'd be thrilled to share them here in another post. (arlee dot ar at gmail dot com) (I also am not sure of all the faces put with names, especially surnames, even after having met and talked to most of you!)

Canada, and North America itself, does not have the same long historical records in and of textile arts that Europe and the "Old World" does. We are not able to claim and  to exclaim over Bayeux Tapestries, gorgeous Renaissance Ecclesiastical robes, or examples of Middle Ages needlework done on this continent. We do however have a few artists who are starting to work with old imagery from the first explorers, as witnessed by the work of Heather Cameron (Gabriola Island BC) as she "translates" the Codex Canadensis manuscript into embroidery.



Specific entries about this project can be found on a dedicated page here and in entries about the original artist Father Louis Nicholas, a Jesuit priest and would be scholar.


On a side note, the main SDA newsblog has a thought provoking post about the use of cultural symbols, their exploitation, misinterpretations and violation of intellectual property rights. (I am NOT however intimating that Heather is breaking any such issues!)


Miscellaneous interest:

Student Art Guide "This website has been created to help high school Art students excel. It contains ideas, help and guidance from students and teachers around the world." While it is focused on secondary and post secondary education, it is a good resource for developing basic skills in drawing, painting and various sub genres and applications. Joining is free and there's quite a bit of interesting information, as well as forums, galleries and resource links. I joined awhile ago, but haven't posted as i feel a bit out of my league in some areas, *and* due to my age! :)



A wonderful design and historical research project here. The Harris Museum and Art Gallery has digitized the 700 textile samples from The Textile Manufactures of India, an 18 volume set of fabric sample books put together in 1866 by John Forbes Watson and published by the India Office of the British Government.

Firstly, may i remind everyone that our own "local" SDA show still has time for you to do your EOI to Karin :) All the info is here.

Whilst cruising around the interwebs this morning, i found a very pertinent and informative article about pricing our Art. Do you get emotional about certain pieces and not want to sell them? That's covered too! It's a lengthy read, but there are salient points for emerging and established artists. LINK. On their main article page, you'll find a plethora of articles on a lot of arty type subjects too.

As a floral designer by day and an artist (in those pesky spare five minutes's i can find), this is rather inspiring! Do check her Galleries page as well. Earth materials art by Chicago fibre artist Karen Gubitz

I'm pleased to say that three of my current works will be included in the "Drought" exhibit at the Great Plains Art Museum at the University of Lincoln-Nebraska, March to April of this year. (No info on the site, but will update as i know.)
