For immediate release

Every so often I get information for immediate release to SDA members from the 'head office'.

This  one is about the swatch collections which are now available online for everyone to experience… just follow the links….

You will remember we had one of the Swatch collections here for one of our meetings this year… and it was quite a different and better experience to handle it in person.  I hope we can arrange to have another set of swatches next year.
However, if you can't make it to a meeting this is a great second best and those who have worked on putting it online deserve a lot of thanks… quite a job.
If you have a swatch you wish to add to the collection I will be bringing forms for submission to the next meeting. November 20th.

The swatches are one of SDA’s most popular educational tools. The collections circulate throughout the United States on loan to various groups, who use them to gain a better understanding of what “surface design” means. The online swatches now offer this opportunity to everyone who would like to know more about the processes that artists are exploring in this field.

To continue to build this important teaching tool, SDA is inviting its members to help launch a fourth collection. SDA is seeking contributions of 12” x 12” samples featuring innovative techniques or distinctive examples of any textile or fiber-inspired process by December 1, 2013. The collection will showcase the latest trends in surface design, textile and fiber art.  Please download submission guidelines and a form atwww.surfacedesign.org/get-involved/sda-swatch-collection.

If you would like to borrow one of the swatch collections, they are available for loan to any SDA member or group affiliate for use as in-depth study at meetings, gatherings or workshops.  Email Beki Biesterfelt, SDA Swatch Collection Administrator, atswatch@surfacedesign.org to make arrangements.
